Arts Can Help Forge Unity, Says Zam

Artistic creations by arts proponents at the national and international levels can help forge unity among peoples, said Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin.

He said the works reflected the culture and identity of a people while carrying a healthy message and promoting a heritage for the benefit of future generations.

"Works like songs, films and dramas can actually be reference guides on culture, way of life and the society itself," he said at the Malaysia-Indonesia Cultural Gala held at the Putra World Trade Centre here.

Zainuddin said the performing arts could be a platform for arts enthusiasts to raise funds for charity or to impart valuable message to society.

He said tonight's event was to celebrate 50 years of friendship between Malaysia and Indonesia besides raising funds for the National Cancer Council (MAKNA).

The event organised by the Malaysian Artistes Association (Seniman) featured Malaysian and Indonesian artistes such as Mawi, Anita Sarawak, Datuk Shake, Titiek Puspa, Irwansyah, Acha Septriasa dan Bob Tutupoly.
