Charity Duck Race Makes RM500,000
Kuala Lumpur: The Kuala Lumpur Charity Duck Race 2005 yesterday raised nearly RM500,000 for the Kiwanis Down Syndrome Foundation and Majlis Kanser Nasional (Makna).

The race was organised by Festival Square Circle with the support of Kuala Lumpur City Hall, The Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Police, Watson's Store and TicketCharge.
A total of 45,200 rubber ducks were dumped into Sungai Gombak at 2 pm by Kuala Lumpur City Hall director-general Saleh Yusup.
The ducks travelled until the bridge near Dataran Merdeka, a distance of two kilometres.
Also present was Festival Square Circle managing director Raja Aris Raja Datuk Seri Dzulkifl.
Raja Aris said the Duck Race has proven to be an effective fund-raising tool after having raised more than RM2.4 million over the last four events.
"The Duck Race allows everyone to do their bit for charity while having fun and with a little luck, win cash and prizes," he said.
Each duck carried a computer generated numbered tag and this number corresponds with the adoption certificates sold for RM18 each.
If a red duck reaches the finishing line first, its parent will win RM1,010,000 cash, and if its was yellow, the parent will bring home RM10,000.
However, the yellow one beat the red ducks and its parent, Lee Mee Lim, won RM10,000.
Chek Pit Chow, Walked away with RM5,000, and Noraini Abdullah received RM2,000.
