Organisations Get Cash Boost From Mall Tenants

Two charitable organizations - the National Cancer Council, or MAKNA, and All Women's Action Society, or AWAM - received a much-needed boost of RM3,948.50 each from four tenants of the City Square Shopping Centre in Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur recently.

The four tenants - Oriental Dreams Sdn Bhd, Saifol Couture, Art Case Gallery and Impressionists Colonnade - had raised the money during a three-day "Affordable Masters" exhibition held from Aug 15 to 17.

Held in conjunction with the "Colours of City Square" promotion, the exhibition was held with the support of the shopping mall's management.

Cheques for the contributions were presented to MAKNA president Datuk Mohd Farid Ariffin and AWAM vice-president Judith Loh in a ceremony held at the shopping mall last Thursday.

Also present were Art Case Gallery executive director Shahimah Idris, Oriental Dreams managing director Tracy Tseung and City Square Group corporate communications and publicity manager Rita Micheaul.

" The contribution will be utilised for MAKNA's numerous awareness projects, campaigns, treatment and research on cancer," said Mohd Farid.

Loh said the donation would go towards the rehabilitation expenses for victims of rape and abuse as well as underage mothers under AWAM's care.

"Part of it will also be used to hold safety awareness programmes for youths."

Micheaul said the fund-raising exhibition aimed not only to promote and strengthen ties between City Square management and the tenants but also to allow tenant and shoppers to do their bit for charity while they shop around for bargains.

"We received good response to the Colours of City Square promotion, especially from art enthusiasts and collectors, as more than 50 paintings and exotic embroidery pieces were sold at affordable prices," she said.
