If you fancy a "beca" (trishaw) ride, you don't have to go to Malacca or Penang. You can do it at Sunway Pyramid and for a good cause, too.

In conjunction with the Merdeka celebration, Sunway Lagoon Resort, with Kelab Sukan Sunway and Majlis Kanser Nasional (MAKNA), had organised this charity trishaw joyride.

For RM5 per trip, the ride will take you around the shopping mall. The ride, available until Sept 1 (from noon to 3pm and 5pm to 7pm daily), is part of Sunway Lagoon Resort's "Warna-Warni Merdeka" annual fund-raising in aid of MAKNA.

"We have named the campaign 'Hati Gemilang", in keeping with the National Day theme. We want to celebrate the generosity of Malaysians.

"These trishaws were brought in specially from Malacca," said Sunway Lagoon Resort managing director Ngeow Voon Yean. Also present at the launch was MAKNA president Dato' Mohd Farid Ariffin.

Apart from the charity ride, miniature Malaysian flags, priced at RM5 each, will be also sold at the Sunway Lagoon Resort Hotel, Sunway Pyramid and Sunway Lagoon Theme Park to raise funds for charity. A donation counter has also been set up at Sunway Pyramid from 10am to 10pm.

At the launch of the trishaw ride, 15 special children from MAKNA and their families were invited to take the first ride on the trishaws.

Prior to that, singer Sharizan Borhan entertained the children on a trishaw where he belted out Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You and Somewhere Over The Rainbow
