Makna Gets RM200,000 From Firm
Kuala Lumpur, Tue. - The National Cancer Council (Makna) received a RM200,000 boost from Malaysian National Reinsurance Berhad (MNRB) for its cancer awareness campaign today.
MNRB Chairman Mohammad Abdullah presented the cheque to Makna President Datuk Mohd Fariq Ariffin.
It is the third consecutive year MRNB has made a donation. Its contribution now amounts to RM600,000.
"Since Makna's inception 11 years ago,
we have handled over 67,000 cancer cases, providin help in the form of treatment and fund-raising. This time, we hope to promote knowledge of cancer causes and a better lifestyle among the public."
Farid said Makna aimed to reach as many people with its message as possible.
He encouraged Malaysians to cherish their lives and avoid cancer-causing activities, noting in particular the young, whom he said were apathetic and reckless.
He also outlined MAKNA's plans to hold nationwide cancer screenings next year as well as spearhead ore fund-raiding efforts, including the collection of one-sen coins.
