Husband Cycles For Cancer Patient Wife
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Every morning, Kamarulbahrain Shaharuddin accompanies wife, Rosmawati Mohd Yusoff, on a two-kilometre cycle in the vicinity of their home at Padang Serai, Kedah.
Once in a while Kamarulbahrain, 42, will slow down so that Rosmawati, 41, can catch up with him. At times, they will stop to rest and talk to friends who asked about their condition.
For that two kilometre trip, the couple took four hours to complete but a worthwhile effort since the exercise has helped reduce the suffering which Rosmawati who has breast cancer, has to go through since diagnosed with the disease in 2004.
She has improved tremendously since doing the cycling exercise and is only required to go for her check-up once in six months.
"I sacrificed 22 years of my career as a technician in a factory so that I can help my wife and give her the support and encouragement to get well again," said Kamarulbahrain when interviewed at a programme to honour volunteers of Makna (National Cancer Council) here today.
Kamarulbahrain who now operates a bicycle shop said his wife woke up at 7am daily for the cycling exercise so that she would sweat and that would help remove toxins that accumulated in her body due to chemotherapy treatment.
"The sweat has an unpleasant odour because of the various medicines given to her during chemotherapy," he added.
Present at the function is Makna president Datuk Mohd Farid Ariffin who presented the special Makna award to Jacob P.C Mathews and Goh Yin Fan for their contributions.
