SGGS does its bit for charity

ALTHOUGH busy with academic pursuits, the students of St. George’s Girl School (SGGS) in Penang still had time for charity, as their production, Hope – The Musical, managed to raise RM7,000 for the National Cancer Council (MAKNA).

Staged at Dewan Sri Pinang, Penang, recently, Hope – The Musical was a story about faith, love and hope. It explored the complicated lives of two Malaysian teenagers from vastly different backgrounds and cultures as they struggled to cope with the trials and tribulations of growing up.

“The whole production was done by the students, from the props, to the costumes and script,” explained SGGS principal Sha-riffah Afifah Syed Abbas, who earlier presented a cheque for RM7,000 to MAKNA assistant manager Imelda Ishak.

“I’m really proud of the girls, the show involved a great number of students and it took them a few months to prepare,” she added.

Equally important, the play also managed to raise RM15,000 for the school fund.

“The money raised will be used to purchase amenities for the benefit of the students,” Shariffah said.

Writer and co-director Nurul Alia’a said she had always enjoyed a love for writing, and was very happy to be given the task of coming up with the script.
